About the studio
Attention is a form of care.
Dufflecoat Studio is an independent Canadian imprint creating thoughtful books that encourage curiosity, attention, and a deeper appreciation of everyday life.
We are drawn to books that reward returning: books shaped by place, observation, memory, work, and the small rituals that give a life its texture.
Our approach is deliberately modest. We favour careful editing, restrained design, and physical books made to endure. Each publication begins with a simple question: is this worth noticing?
Dufflecoat Studio is based near Vancouver, British Columbia.
The name
A coat that felt like me.
Some of my earliest and best memories go back to childhood. These were the days when young children walked themselves to school, and I was no exception. My mom, wanting her blond-haired boy to be warm yet stylish, bought me a beautiful camel-coloured dufflecoat.
With its trademark toggle buttons, the coat didn’t exactly blend in with the denim and hockey jackets more common in our town. But somehow, it suited me. It felt like me being me.
Dufflecoat Studio was founded as an homage to that coat, and to a time of life when curiosity and creativity are unbridled and imagination can soar. For me, it also represents a return to making things, following instinct, and listening more closely to that inner voice.
We all have a true nature, one that transcends titles and roles. Dufflecoat Studio is interested in that voice.
